Rooted Wednesdays Vol. 23 How to release the timeline in your mind
Aktie
Whats on my hair -
Some twists. Twists are a recovery style for me.
Before putting them in, I had a lengthy wash day after leaving a wash-and-go in for about a week longer than planned. The extra tangles meant extra detangling. Extra detangling meant extra manipulation. Extra manipulation always increases the opportunity for breakage.
Twists, will forever be one of the styles that promotes the most health and length retention for my hair.
They keep my strands stretched. They reduce friction. They reduce tangles.
Most importantly, they reduce the amount of work my hair has to recover from later.
What's on my heart?
The timeline I have created in my head has also been creating tangles in my life.
I often imagine where I should be by now.
How much money I'd rather have. How much my business should be growing. How quickly certain prayers should have been answered. (Yikes.)
The problem wasn't that I had a vision.
The problem was that I was comparing my current reality to a timeline that was created in ignorance.
When I create a timeline in my mind, I don't know what lessons I'll need to learn.
I don't know what opportunities will arise. I don't know what setbacks I'll face.
I don't even know who I'll become.
I'm making predictions with incomplete information.
And then I'm using those predictions to judge my actual life.
No wonder my heart has felt tangled.
Just like my hair, the more I fought the reality in front of me, the more work I created for myself.
So instead of forcing my life to match a timeline I've created in my mind, I'm allowing myself to be here.
And to trust that growth is still happening. To trust that progress isn't always visible.
To trust that even the things I couldn't have accounted are working in my favor.
from my wash day to yours,
Jasmine
