Rooted Wednesdays Vol. 24 For those feeling scattered

Whats on my hair

Turning on my favorite songs has been getting me through wash days lately.

The summer heat, the back-to-back trips, the late summer nights... they've got me feeling a different kind of exhausted. I still want to show up for my hair, but whew... I'm going to need a break soon.

Right now, though, it's just me. So I'm doing the best I can, as consistently as I can.

The way music makes wash day pass by is so underrated. I'll always put on some R&B, leave all the thoughts I have about life right outside the bathroom door, and trust that the time I'm about to dedicate to my hair (and to myself) is nourishing me in ways I can't always see.

Sometimes self-care will not feel inspired. Sometimes it's just showing up and trusting its having the same effects your desire.

What's on my heart

I've been juggling a lot lately.

I feel scattered. I feel out of routine. I feel inconsistent.

And if I'm honest... that hurts.

It hurts because I know the life I'm trying to build (a life that feels peaceful, creative, and worth living) needs a foundation. It needs routine. It needs consistency.

But then life does exactly what life does.

It rearranges my plans. My very detailed, perfectly organized plans.

And every time it happens, I'm reminded of something I already know but still struggle to accept: I have very little control over what happens to me. I only have control over how I respond.

Lately I've been asking myself, What's the cheat code? How do I never leave myself again? How do I not leave the routines and habits I know I need to continue becoming who I dream about??

But I don't think that's the right question anymore.

Maybe the better question is how do I return to myself? Return again and again.

Because life will always do its thing. There will always be unexpected detours, exhausting seasons, and moments that pull us away from the rhythms that make us feel most like ourselves.

Maybe the goal was never to stay perfectly consistent.

Maybe the goal is to become someone who knows how to come home to herself.

To return without shame. To rebuild and restart without rushing. Patiently and gently.

That's the practice I'm in right now. And maybe you are too.

with love,
Jasmine
