Rooted Wednesdays Vol. 35 What feels good now vs. later

what's on my hair?
A fluffy, textured bun… again.
Nothing slicked back. And honestly, I thought not slicking my hair back would be more of a challenge than it’s been. Turns out, I really don’t miss it that much.
I’ve also been pretty consistent with deep conditioning lately. Right now I’ve been using the Melanin Haircare Plumping Deep Conditioner (oh so good), and I can genuinely tell the difference between my hair when I stay on top of deep conditioning and when I don’t.
It’s one of those things where the payoff isn’t necessarily dramatic while I’m doing it. But my hair notices.
(what's on my heart)
Apparently, I do too.
Lately I’ve been getting up earlier so I can have about an hour to myself before the day really starts. Moving slowly. Moving my body. Not moving through my phone. Just giving myself a little bit of space before I start responding to everything else.
And my days are noticeably better when I do.
The problem is… at 5-something in the morning, I do not care about any of that 😂.
In that moment, staying in bed feels better. The extra sleep feels like the more comforting choice. It isn’t until later, when I’ve rushed into my day or feel like I never really got a moment to myself, that I remember why I wanted that morning time in the first place.
It’s been a gentle reminder that sometimes the choice that feels best right now and the choice that will feel best later are sometimes two different choices.
Some benefits lag.
You don’t always get the reward at the exact moment you make the decision. Sometimes you have to choose the thing before you can feel why it was worth choosing.
Deep conditioning. Getting out of bed. Moving my body. Putting my phone down.
Tiny choices that don’t always give me instant comfort, but somehow make life feel a little better on the other side.
hair care + heart care always,
Jasmine
