Rooted Wednesdays Vol. 37 You can have a vision + still love today

What's on my hair -
My hair feels lighter lately. Freer.
Less gel when I put it up. Looser hair ties. Consistent weekly wash days. The same products week after week instead of constantly wondering if something else would work better.
And maybe most importantly, a lot less expectation.
I’ve talked before about how easily I can go into wash day or styling with an end goal already in mind (how I want my hair to fall, how defined I want it to be, how long or full I want it to look). And when it doesn’t match the picture in my head, I can very quickly start noticing everything that’s “wrong.”
What’s missing. What isn’t growing fast enough. What didn’t turn out the way I imagined.
Meanwhile, I’m overlooking what’s actually working. What’s healthy. What’s already here.
I’m learning that it really is a practice to observe rather than absorb every thought.
The goal isn’t to stop having expectations or pretend there isn’t a gap between where my hair is and where I want it to go. It’s just to fully accept what’s here first and then listen for how I might close those gaps over time, with patience and a more compassion for myself and my hair along the way.
What's on my heart -
This morning I was thinking about how badly we want to know. What's goin to happen? Why is this happening?
I can create such a clear vision for my life that I start comparing it to the present and measuring everything that isn’t there yet.
Constantly searching for certainty makes me feel like one day I’ll finally relax once everything lines up “right.” But it also keeps me from enjoying what’s already here. Similarly to my hair overlooking what’s actually working. What’s healthy.
I can have a vision without making the present feel like it’s not enough.
Gentle reminder to relax into today. To stop trying to figure out tomorrow when what you're searching for might already be hidden in the opportunity in front of you.
