Rooted Wednesdays Vol. 7 Braids, warmer days, and a small shift

Whats On My Hair

This week I decided to install some large knotless braids.

Something about the weather warming up (or going on vacation) always makes me reach for braids.

If you’re thinking about braids this season, a few small care reminders that help keep both your hair and scalp happy:

  • Moisturize your scalp and the length of your hair regularly. Even in braids, your hair still needs water. A light mist or hydrating spray goes a long way. My go to right now

  • Sleep protection still matters. A satin scarf, bonnet, or pillowcase helps reduce frizz and tension on the braids.

  • Keep tension in mind. The best braids are the ones that feel secure but never painful.

Whats On My Heart

For the past few weeks I’ve been talking a lot about rest.

Resting when you feel behind. Resting when your mind wants to rush the process. Resting when you feel like you should already be somewhere else in life.

But lately I’ve been noticing something shift. Spring has a way of doing that. The days stretch longer. The air changes.

Not rushed. Not forced. Just preparation.

I’m feeling more motivated lately — not in the pressure-filled way, but in the quiet way where ideas start returning and energy slowly builds again.

Winter asks for rest.
Spring invites awareness.

And sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is trust that both seasons are needed.

From my wash day to yours,

Jasmine
